Zoe the e-kaiki
Kompogiorgas Shipyard
August 2021
A story of renaissance.
Zoe [from ancient Greek ζωή (zōḗ) meaning “life”] was baptized on August 9, 2021 in the old
harbor of Spetses – a symbolic date for the Kompogiorgas family.
After their father’s passing a year prior, Thanos (26) and Giannis (16) took over the family
business, renowned for its state-of-the-art woodworking technique and traditional boat
manufacturing. The first step, however, was to finish a small “kaiki” boat that Mr. Vaggelis had
started.
With the help of the local community, the Kompogiorgas boys saw an opportunity to innovate
and came up with the idea of creating the first electricity-powered, classical wooden boat: a
blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology!
Zoe’s completion marks a new beginning for Kompogiorgas Shipyard, not only continuing a 3rd
generation of passion and skill, but acting as a prototype for a carbon-neutral initiative in the
Mediterranean; a token of faith for the family, the industry and for the world.
